Bob Fromme's Site

Welcome to my little site on the web. Currently, I do a little adjunct teaching for ITT-Tech in San Antonio.   As a younger man, I spent well over 20 years as a professional potter and adjunct college and craft school instructor teaching drawing, design, ceramics art history and appreciation. In 1989  I began a second career as a public school teacher where nearly two additional decades of my life were devoted to students learning animation, digital graphics and visual arts.  I retired from public school in 2008.

When I am not teaching 3D animation, you will find me fishing from my canoe at one of the local lakes, kayaking for redfish on the flats near Port Aransas, or enjoying one of several additional hobbies, including of beekeeping, photography, gardening, and the visual arts.

In addition to the hobbies and an interest in the visual arts and technology , I have always enjoyed writing. A great way to learn a little more about my life would be to read a few of my written memories and a few short stories based on my experiences in the war.  After you read some of the accounts and short stories, you may enjoy looking at  some images  of our  platoon in Vietnam.

Letters to the Andujar Family As a young draftee, serving in the Third Platoon, Delta Company, 4/12 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam, I accumulated many vivid memories which have lingered for over thirty years. Accounts and letters are available concerning my time in Vietnam and the fire fight on June 13, 1969 in which the Sergeant was killed. Look for the publication of that account in the June 2002 issue of Vietnam Magazine.    SSgt. Andujar's name is listed on the Vietnam Veteran's Wall, Panel 22W -- Line 40

Viet Vermin - An account about the interesting creatures which trod or trapezed the topography of South Vietnam in 1969

Remembering the Locals - Vietnam was filled with experiences illuminating the lack of responsibility associated with neighborhood, community and nation among the Vietnamese populace. As I witnessed these events I  grew ever thankful for the many blessings of citizenship in America.

The Internet has served as a useful teaching resource for those of us involved in public education. Over the past decade I have written occasional articles on the subject.

Technology's Implications for Art Education
This article was originally written for "Trends," a hard copy, yearly publication of the Texas Art Education Association, published Spring, 1999. Following its original 'hardcopy' publication, this article has also become an online publication in "Artery International, The Premier Online Journal of Visual Art Research in Education, Healthcare & Studio" and featured on the web site for "Artforce1, An international union of artists, art educators, art therapists and visual art researchers".

Rites of Passage "Technology for the Middle and High School Classroom"  This article was also originally written for "Trends," a hard copy, yearly publication of the Texas Art Education Association, published Spring 1998.

Therein Lies the Power of Telecommunications This is an online copy of an article written for CUE, The Journal of the Computer Using Educators of British Columbia, Volume 13 Number 1, Summer 1994. The article was a collaboration of three authors. At the time that it was written, Marjan Glavac, was an educator in London, Ontario, Sheldon Smith was an educator in Atascadero, California and Robert Fromme was teaching in San Antonio, Texas.

Project Ecology - An International Exchange of Student Art Late in the 1992-93 school year, my young artists at Salado Middle School, East Central I.S.D., San Antonio, Texas were involved in a wonderful international ecology art exchange involving participants from 9 schools in 5 countries.
